PSYPACT in Mississippi
Enhancing access to mental health services through the passage of Legislation (SB2157)
What is PSYPACT?
The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT®) is an interstate compact designed to facilitate the practice of telepsychology and the temporary in-person, face-to-face practice of psychology across state boundaries.
The PSYPACT Commission is the governing body of PSYPACT responsible for creating and finalizing the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations. The Commission is also responsible for granting psychologists the authority to practice telepsychology and temporary in-person, face-to-face practice of psychology across state boundaries.
Telepsychology In order to practice telepsychology in PSYPACT states, psychologists licensed in PSYPACT states only can apply to the PSYPACT Commission for an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APITâ„¢). One required component of this authority granted from the PSYPACT Commission is that psychologists must obtain an E.Passport Certificate from ASPPB. Temporary Practice In order to conduct temporary practice in PSYPACT states, psychologists licensed in PSYPACT states only can apply to the PSYPACT Commission for a Temporary Authorization to Practice (TAPâ„¢). One required component of this authorization granted from the PSYPACT Commission is that psychologists must apply for and obtain an Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate (IPC) from ASPPB. *Providers are responsible for maintaining knowledge of and complying with each PSYPACT State’s laws, rules, and regulations – for each PSYPACT state the provider is practicing into or out of.*
Why PSYPACT?
1. Increased Access
PSYPACT enables licensed psychologists to provide services to Mississippi residents without the need for additional state-specific licenses. This expands the pool of available mental health professionals, addressing shortages and increasing access.
2. Streamlined Processes
Mississippians seeking mental health services can benefit from a more streamlined process. Psychologists with a PSYPACT-specific license can practice across state lines, reducing administrative burdens and ensuring quicker access to care.
3. Telepsychology Advancements
In today's digital age, telepsychology is a crucial aspect of mental health care. PSYPACT facilitates the provision of telepsychology services, allowing Mississippians to connect with qualified psychologists remotely.
4. Consumer Protection:
By participating in PSYPACT, Mississippi reinforces its commitment to consumer protection. The compact establishes shared standards and regulations, ensuring that licensed psychologists adhere to a high level of professional conduct.
